once upon a time,
I lived in a storefront that used to be a store and then a bordello and then a theatre and then finally an empty lot which became a rentable backyard for $100/hr and now soon to be another... luxury condominium? When I lived in the bordello turned theatre, I lived in the "madam's perch", which was also used to throw snow, glitter, puppet monsters or alien space banners from my window onto the stage below. Living there allowed me to experiment with performance and created a piece with an ensemble of women titled "two wishes kissing". my roommate, who lived in the perch with me, was an amazing vibraphonist and sound engineer. he and I composed most of the music for two wishes kissing and this particular piece was created on a piano that was being thrown out onto the street because the piano store was going out of business. free to good homes, pianos were littering the lower east side. so we wheeled this little baby into our theatre space and made this live recording: |
